In this post, I will explain how to easily install Debian 12 in VirtualBox running on Windows 11.

Remember that Windows 11 has the ability to run WSL2 (Windows Subsystem for Linux), which is much easier to setup and work with, but sometimes setting up a virtual machine on our own can be useful.

Download and install VirtualBox

First step is to download and install VirtualBox, go HERE and download and install the latest version of VirtualBox

If you happen to receive the error Nvidia kernel module missing falling back to Nouveau in a Fedora installation (I got this on Fedora 38 with Nvidia drivers), this might mean that your nvidia driver installation is messed up.

Solution

First thing you should try is to upgrade everything and do a reboot.

sudo dnf update

Once the update is run, reboot. See if the error disappears. If it does not, go ahead with the re-install.

If you use MacOS with iterm2 terminal and if you use vim or neovim within iterm2, you may have noticed that your options or alt keybindings are not working as expected.

For example, I was using NvChad with NeoVIM and none of the shortcuts that uses Options/Alt where working for me.

This is how you can fix it

Profiles -> Edit the Profile -> Keys -> Left Option Key -> Esc+
You can do the same for Right Option Key as well, if you would prefer

Fedora 38 by default comes with open source drivers for the Nvidia GPU. The open source drive is called nouveau. But this does not work well if you like to play games on your computer. You need to install the proprietary drivers from Nvidia to be able to play games properly. This post will show you how to do that

The Problem

Imagine a situation where you're engaged in a captivating conversation with GPT-4 via ChatGPT, maybe it's assisting you with troubleshooting a problem, or you're working on a college assignment - essentially any context.
